Live Like You Have a Purpose

Written By Alethea Jimison

So many think they’re free.
But don’t know why they’re choking on anxiety.
Choosing to believe in a manufactured reality.

Drink your beer.
Eat your chicken wings.
Sing the national anthem.

With the rockets’ red glare.
The bombs bursting in air.
Gave proof through the dawn
That dead bodies were everywhere.

But you don’t have a care.
Work it
Is it worth it?
Put that Thang down
Flip and curse it.
It’s you’re flipping
Floppin
Slam
Living it.
Rinse and repeat.

Can you even breathe
Or are you choking
On this reality.

Is it worth it?
Then dammit, live like you have a purpose.
