A poetic memoir that describes a life of poverty and overcoming the challenge of depression caused by the everyday struggles of the urban American.
The book addresses topics such as growing up in a racially tense environment as a biracial child. The purpose of Alethea’s memoir is not only to shed light on the challenges faced in urban communities but to acknowledge the grim subjects that have been a part of the destruction of the American culture; racism, poverty, discrimination, and the limitations of our current education system.
Coming out of the Dark is about the strength of the human spirit to overcome heartache and rise from the ashes of the fire of a tumultuous life.
